Benefits

Soil-based organisms are survivable probiotic strains that occur naturally in the soil and are generally found in unprocessed fruit and vegetables. Modern farming conditions like nutrient-depleted soil, and modern diets lacking in raw fruits and vegetables make it hard to get these important probiotics, but the gut benefits greatly from them. The best part? These probiotics are meant to be a part of your diet naturally, so they’re designed for survival. They make it into your gut where they can colonize.

Ingredients

Lactobacillus plantarum

The most abundant strain in SBO Probiotic, Lactobacillus plantarum is shown to support healthy intestinal immunity.†

Bacillus subtilis

A soil-based, spore-forming probiotic that supports normal microflora in the gut, healthy gut function, normal digestion and a healthy immune system, in addition to promoting a healthy GI tract.†

Bacillus coagulans

This shelf-stable spore-former supports healthy gut transit time, digestive comfort, healthy elimination and healthy digestive function.†

Saccharomyces boulardii

This beneficial, tropical species of yeast supports healthy gut transit time.†

Quality

Organic Fermented Botanical Blend

You won’t find this in other probiotics. Full of superfoods and fermented for absorption, this blend features organic botanicals traditionally used to support digestion, like apple cider vinegar and ginger root. It also features favorites like turmeric plus black pepper fruit for even more whole body benefits.

Survivable

Many probiotic strains are fragile and have to be refrigerated in order to survive. Even when you take them, they may not make it into your gut so that they can colonize. That's why SBO Probiotic is made from probiotic strains that occur naturally in the soil, called soil-based organisms (SBOs). These strains are tough, and they survive without refrigeration.

Strain Diversity

The 6 diverse probiotic strains in this probiotic support your gut in myriad ways, including supporting normal microflora in the gut, comfortable digestion and a healthy immune system.†

Frequently Asked Questions

Dr. Axe Answers

Ancient Nutrition co-founder, chiropractor, clinical nutritionist and certified doctor of natural medicine is here to answer your questions!

Why does the color of my capsule look different?

Due to the nature of the Organic Fermented Botanical Blend used within our SBO Probiotic product, variability in color can occur. This can be due to manufacturing updates, changes to the manufacturer or availability of organic supply due to the seasonality of ingredients. This can lead to a lighter-colored end product or a darker-colored end product, depending on the blends used. While color variations can occur, this does not affect the quality of the ingredients or of the SBO Probiotic formula.

What is the complete list of organic botanicals in this product?

One of the premium features of SBO Probiotic is the superfood botanical blend.

Here is the complete list:

  • Ginger (root)
  • Turmeric (root)
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Black Pepper Fruit
  • Turmeric Root CO2 Extract
  • Black Pepper Fruit Oil

Why do I need probiotics?

Fact: Most Americans don’t consume enough probiotics in their diet due to modern processed foods, soil depletion and more. I believe most people are in need of probiotic support.

Here’s why: Thanks to prescription antibiotics, high carbohydrate diets, fluoridated tap water, and high levels of stress, the good bacteria in our guts are often being diminished, and our bodies can't replace them at the rate required for optimal health.

In fact, I believe we need to avoid and reduce our consumption of these top 7 probiotic killers:

  • Prescription antibiotics
  • Excessive sugar intake
  • Drinking tap water (chlorine and fluoride)
  • GMO foods
  • Eating too many whole grains (plus gluten)
  • Emotional stress
  • Exposure to toxins and pesticides

Meanwhile, “bad” bacteria can flourish while the “good” bacteria is killed off, leaving your system out of balance. I believe the best way to approach this is to eliminate foods and toxins that feed “bad” bacteria and start consuming probiotic-rich foods and supplements.

How is this product different from the probiotics in your Ancient Probiotics line?

The main difference is that SBO Probiotic features primarily soil-based, spore-forming organisms, and Ancient Probiotics features mostly non-spore forming cultures.

The strains in SBO populate differently in your gut than the live cultures in Ancient Probiotics, so they are great to take together for more strain diversity.

SBO features a fermented botanical blend of prebiotics, Ancient Probiotics do not. Ancient Probiotics feature Ayurvedic herbs to amplify the benefits; SBO does not feature these.

Ancient Probiotics varieties feature anywhere between 25 billion and 100 billion CFU* per serving, and SBO Probiotic features 50 billion CFU* per serving.

Soil-based organisms are generally more survivable than live cultures, which is why there are 16-17 strains of probiotics in Ancient Probiotics and 6 strains in SBO.

Ancient Probiotics feature time-release capsules, which means the contents dissolve slower and steadier in your body. This is especially beneficial for the diverse probiotics in this blend making it to your digestive tract where they are most important. SBO Probiotic, while featuring survivable strains, does not feature time-release capsules.

What is the right amount of CFUs to be getting every day?

It varies! For most people I recommend a CFU count anywhere between 25 to 100 billion. SBO Probiotic has 50 billion CFU* per serving.

Do I need to refrigerate these probiotics?

No, you do not need to refrigerate SBO Probiotic because the strains are shelf-stable and survivable.

Can I give these probiotics to my child?

This probiotic is not intended for use by children.

What are the capsules made out of?

The capsule itself is 100% plant-based.

Is this dairy-free?

Technically, this probiotic is not dairy free because of the Lactobacilli strains in it.

How is the soil sourced for this product?

Don’t worry, when you’re taking this probiotic, you’re not actually eating dirt. While the organisms found in this product are naturally found in the soil, the actual probiotic cultures in this product are lab grown to ensure quality and safety.
