  • From Dr. Axe: With specially selected lavender, ylang ylang, clary sage and bergamot oils, Rest & Relaxation can help you find your serenity and slumber zones. Why? Because it eases feelings of stress and promotes feelings of relaxation —a win-win!

If you need some R & R, why not give this combo of lavender, ylang ylang, clary sage and bergamot a try?

Clean-smelling, soothing lavender can help to promote feelings of relaxation, which can be helpful when you’re trying to unwind.  Lavender essential oil is the most used essential oil in the world today, but the benefits of lavender were actually discovered over 2,500 years ago. Because of its powerful properties, lavender oil benefits abound and it’s been used for cosmetically and for overall health for centuries.

With a sweet, spicy and floral scent, ylang ylang has relaxing, calming and uplifting qualities that can ease what gets in the way of restful sleep. Ylang ylang is the name of a tree native to Indonesia—a tree famed for its fragrant flowers as well as its powerful essential oil, and the name “ylang ylang” comes from the Tagalog term ilang-ilang for the tree—a double pronunciation of the word ilang, meaning “wilderness.”

One of the most popular essential oils for R & R (rest & relaxation) is clary sage because it can help to bust stress, thereby helping to pave the way to relaxation. Clary sage has been historically used for its calming benefits.  Its relaxing, soothing, and balancing properties are due to its main chemical component, linalyl acetate, part of the esters group.

Likewise, bergamot essential oil has a history of being known for its ability to help alleviate stress. As a delicate citrus plant, bergamot needs a special climate and soil so that it can thrive, and is noted for having both uplifting and calming qualities while supporting positive feelings and a positive mindset.

    Ancient Apothecary Grapefruit Essential Oil

For topical, aromatherapy or dietary purposes.

For decades, we’ve realized that consuming grapefruit can help promote a healthy weight. However, using grapefruit essential oil for healthy weight management (in addition to an overall healthy diet and lifestyle, including regular exercise) is becoming more popular.

Like all other citrus fruits, grapefruit essential oil is found in its peel and is extracted via a cold-pressing process. Many of its beneficial properties mirror those of the essential oils of other citrus fruits.  Having been used for centuries to support health in a variety of ways, including promoting a healthy weight, grapefruit essential oil still boasts those benefits.

As one of the most versatile essential oils, the aroma of grapefruit oil is clean, fresh and a bit bitter, which reflects the fruit itself. It has the signature taste and smell of citrus fruits, which is why many people like using it in natural household cleaning products, homemade beauty lotions, soaps and more.

Grapefruit oil is naturally brimming with antioxidants and phytochemicals, and many of its benefits are due to one of its main constituents called limonene, which comprises approximately 88 percent to 95 percent of the oil.

Additionally, grapefruit essential oil features other potent antioxidants such as vitamin C, myrcene, terpinene, pinene and citronellol.

    Grapefruit Oil Uses:

    • As a supplement, dilute one drop to 4 ounces of water, or place one drop into an empty supplement capsule, and consume.
    • Diffuse for a citrusy, motivating scent.
    • Use for a soothing massage that leaves behind a light, uplifting fragrance.
    • Add a drop to a nightly facial routine. (Avoid sun exposure afterwards.)
    • Diffuse while studying or reading to help with focus.
    • Apply directly to desired areas for a soothing citrusy experience.
    • Diffuse or apply topically to help give a clearing, cleansing effect.

Grapefruit essential oil blends very well with lavender, frankincense, geranium, bergamot and palma rosa essential oils.
